London, a low ceiling bedroom on the top floor

       Immortalisée au Hazlitt's, chambre du même nom. Elle porte en effet celui du célèbre écrivain et critique littéraire anglais (William de son prénom) car c'est en ce lieu, au dernier étage du 6, Frith street à Soho, qu'il passa la fin de sa vie. J'ai pris cette photo parce que j'aimais l'effet de la lumière sur la soie de l'abat-jour, le feutre du chapeau et le coton froissé de l'oreiller. J'avais publié autrefois une photo de la salle de bain attenante que vous pouvez revoir en cliquant juste ici.  

       I took this picture at the Hazlitt's in the bedroom which has this same name as this is here where William Hazlitt, famous English writer, spent the end of his life, on the top floor of the 6, Frith street, in Soho. I shot this pic because I did like the diffuse daylight effect coming from the window on the silk of the lamp, the felt of the hat and the crumpled cotton of the pillow. I had already taken a picture of the adjoining bathroom as you can see right here.

     Voici l'endroit où il faut être quand il pleut (grosse averse au moment où je prenais cette photo). Vintage, cosy et délicieux. Je suis restée seulement un petit quart d'heure dans ce salon, assise sur un canapé devant ce (vrai) feu de cheminée. J'avais, telle que vous la voyez, cette image devant mes yeux et je n'ai rien arrangé ou déplacé pour rendre la photo plus "sexy", elle n'en avait pas besoin. (C'est l'un des salons attenant au lobby du Hazlitt's.)
      The right place to be when it is raining outside. I stayed only 15 minutes in this room, seated in the sofa in front of this fireplace. I had this image in front of my eyes. The books, on the table and on the fireplace, were exactly in this position, as well as the armchairs, I didn't touch anything to make the style better. No need. Vintage, cosy and delicious. (It is one of the the living rooms, lobby next door, at the Hazlitt's.)

     J'ai traqué ce plafond durant la nuit dans le quartier de Soho. En général je n'aime pas les lustres, préférant les éclairages indirects. Mais celui-ci avait quelque chose de spécial : paisible, si délicat et pourtant si solide et plein de joie. Les ombres chinoises tout autour jouent un rôle signifiant dans cette histoire d'intérieur.

     A ceiling at night in Soho. Usually I don't like the chandeliers as I prefer indirect lightings. But this one had something special : peaceful, so thin but strong and full of bliss. The "Chinese shadows" on the ceiling play also a significant role in this interior story.

London, the bathtub

     Salles de bain du Hazlitts' + Londres = amour éternel. Hauteur sous plafond, carrelage noir et blanc vintage, moulures anciennes. Ça fait longtemps que je n'ai pris de photos pour ce blog avec un appareil digne de ce nom. Comme ici par exemple, j'ai photographié avec mon vieil iPhone. J'espère que la qualité reste néanmoins suffisante pour vous donner un aperçu de l'atmosphère des lieux.

      Bathroom ever and ever at the Hazlitts'. High ceiling, vintage floor, beautiful antic moldings. Since a while, I haven't post any pictures taken with a real camera on this blog, like here I took my old iphone. Nevertheless I hope it is enough to tell the story and at least to show you the ambience.

            Chers amis et visiteurs du blog... Bon, d'abord merci d'être venus sur ces pages en dépit du peu de photos publiées ces derniers jours. Je n'abandonne pas du tout le blog ! C'est juste une bien vilaine grippe qui me fait reporter toutes mes prises de vue depuis 15 jours un petit contretemps et je vous dis à très vite. Prochains posts début novembre (c'est pas si loin). Je joins à ce petit mot, une photo du salon de réception de Apsley House, résidence du Duc de Wellington dont je vous montrais récemment le bas de l'escalier principal où se dresse une statue de Canova représentant Napoléon nu.             Dear friends and visitors, first I thank you to have come to this pages despite I have not published that much since a few days... I don't abandon the blog ! It's just a nasty flu which have made me cancel all my shootings since 2 weeks a little hitch and I'm back very soon. Next posts in november (almost like tomorrow). I illustrate this little text with a picture of Apsley House which was Duke of Wellington's home.            Retour à Apsley House surnommée "Number one London", célèbre pour avoir été habitée par le duc de Wellington à qui appartenait cette statue de Canova représentant Napoléon nu... Le haut de l'escalier fait partie des images favorites de ce blog. Vous pouvez le revoir en cliquant ici. 

          Back to Apsley House surnamed "Number one London" and famous for its former resident, the Duke of Wellington who was the owner of this Canova sculpture representing Napoleon, nude... The upper floor of this stair is one of the favorite pictures of the blog. You can see it again here.

Londres, psychedelic place (the sequel)

        Cet escalier n'a rien avoir avec les sept nains (cf phrase écrite sur le mur) ni avec les schtroumpfs. On se trouve dans un vrai palais. Celui où ont habité sept vraies princesses parmi lesquelles Mary Stuart et Lady Diana. Je vous présente Kensington Palace redécoré à l'occasion d'une exposition animée qui a fait couler de l'encre à Londres, l'automne dernier. Il y avait notamment des nids avec des gros oeufs dans toutes les cheminées mais j'avais la flemme de lire la notice alors je n'ai pas tout suivi. Je vous invite à revoir les intérieurs inattendus que j'avais photographiés à cette occasion : cliquez ici et là quelque part entre le fantomatique et le fantastique... 

         This stair has nothing to do with the seven dwarfs (see the sentence written on the wall) neither with the smurfs (see this blue color). We are in a real palace where seven real princesses lived including Mary Stuart and Lady Diana. Let me introduce Kensington Palace designed and converted for a famous  animated exhibition in London last fall. There were big eggs in every chimney. As I was to lazy to read the explanations, I didn't follow everything.           Des livres, voilà quelques livres...! Cela faisait un bon moment que l'on en n'avait pas aperçu dans  ce blog (au moins quelques jours). Ça me manquait un peu. Lobby du Hazlitt's.

Londres, eagle bath tube

Au bord de la baignoire, cette belle sculpture sombre et massive représentant un aigle fait office de robinet. Lorsqu'on se fait couler un bain, l'eau jaillit puissamment par le bec. Suite Duke of Monmouth du Hazlitt's.

On the bath tube this nice massive sculpture figuring an eagle is used as the tap. Whenever having a bath, the water is going through the beak. Duke of Monmouth suite at Hazlitt's.

Londres, always cosy hallways

Une moquette bien épaisse recouvre entièrement les couloirs et l'escalier? Je vis toujours cela comme le signe d'un authentique intérieur anglais et lorsque j'y suis, cela m'enchante.

A very thick fitted carpet is everywhere in the corridor and the stairs? I always see that as an authentic sign that I am in an English interior and I like this feeling when I'm in.

Un bar-lounge-restaurant argentin près de Regent street à Londres. Sous l'escalier sombre de l'entrée aux lampes dépareillées, ce fauteuil vous tend les bras.

Association de matériaux aux époques, couleurs et origines diverses. Douche à l'ancienne. Le bord de la baignoire est en marbre noir.
